Voting is underway in Quebec’s provincial general election on Monday, October 5, 2026. Élections Québec is organizing the vote for approximately 6.4 million people on the electoral list across 127 electoral divisions.
Polling stations are open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time. Preliminary results will begin appearing after polls close and ballots are counted; Élections Québec expects the first results between about 8:30 and 9 p.m.
Voters are choosing a member of the National Assembly in each of Quebec’s 127 electoral divisions. The resulting assembly will determine which party or group can form the next provincial government.
The election is a vote for provincial representation, not an independence referendum. Quebec sovereignty remains a campaign issue because the Parti Québécois, led by Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, continues to present it as a political objective.
Élections Québec says electors should vote at their assigned polling place, which appears on the reminder card sent before election day. Voters can also look up their polling place through the election agency and should bring accepted identification.
Polling hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time. People already in line at 8 p.m. can still vote, according to the election agency’s counting guidance.
Élections Québec will publish preliminary results after the polls close at 8 p.m. as election workers count ballots. The agency says the first figures should arrive between 8:30 and 9 p.m. and be updated during the evening.
Those election-night figures are preliminary. Results become official after the addition of votes, which usually takes place the following day in most electoral divisions. No winning party or seat total should be treated as confirmed before the count is available.
